We made three short films to help share research as part of an AHRC funded project at the School of Law at Leeds University. The project is led by Professor Marie-Andrée Jacob and Dr Priyasha Saksena.

The research departs from a question:

Who gets to become and remain a professionalised healthcare worker in the UK? This question has become particularly salient given the endemic shortage of qualified healthcare workers in high-income countries with ageing populations.

We worked with Professor Jacob and Dr Saksena to devise an appropriate process for interviews with migrant carers working in the NHS. We also interviewed the artists behind a graphic novel produced as part of the project.

It was important in the research to create a filming situation whereby everyone felt comfortable. In some instances it was necessary protect the identities of some research participants. We worked with the research leads to devise a filming strategy that would get good performances, create striking images look at how communicating lived experience was a key part of this research.
