Beneath The Surface

Collaboration: The Night With and composer Matthew Whiteside

We made a 30 minute film for an AV work with live musicians from Australia and Scotland

Contributors: poet Lucy Norton (Australia) and David Overend (UK)

Partners: Scottish Arts Council, PRS Foundation

Beneath The Surface is a project motivated by the growing urgency around ocean conservation and marine warming. The work looks at human’s effect on the underwater world

This is an unusual project for Daisy Street Films. We created a large scale video projection in response to Matthew Whiteside’s classical music score. We made the film from 30 hours of diving footage shot by Matthew in the crystalline warm waters of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the murky and dark cold waters of lochs in Scotland. The project developed over four months through a process of meetings and exchanges with Matthew, Aboriginal poet Lucy Norton and Scottish writer David Overend.
